The Concert Programme
A few years ago a very small group of St Denys members met in a local
hostelry to discuss ways in which greater use could be made of our historic main church building.
The main idea that came from this session was to make the building available as a concert venue.

With the main church one of the largest spaces of its kind in Southampton,
good acoustics and a ready made stage and seating it was felt that we had an ideal venue for musical events.
Furthermore it would help to raise our profile and build links with the St Denys community.
The first concert in the series was held on 20th of September 2008, the churches 140th year and
featured local blues legend Bob Pearce and his band for an evening of gospel and blues.
The concert was an astounding success, a good audience having a memorable night and demonstrated
the churches suitability as a concert venue.
Since that first concert we at St Denys have been fortunate enough to host many other fine performers
including Cythia, a renowned gospel singer,
Yazz, the former 1980's chart artist who became a Christian.
We have also been proud to host Choral concerts and classical performances such as Organ recitals
and a harp concert by international harpist, Robin Ward
It is our hope that through the concerts we have served our local community and hope to bring many more talented artists to St Denys.
